End of an Era

June 24, 2006

The Championships at Wimbledon, the crown jewel of tennis, start Monday. This particular favorite of the Crumpet household will have a bittersweet flavor this year as tennis legend Andre Agassi announced today it would be his last.

On the hallowed grounds of the All England Club where he won his first Grand Slam title 14 years ago, the erstwhile rebel Agassi paid tribute to his hosts and said he would hang up his rackets for good when the U.S. Open ends in September.

Fighting back tears, Agassi reflected, “There’s been a lot of challenges, but it’s been 20, 21 years of incredible, incredible memories.”

Thanks for those memories, Andre.
