Day Fifteen: Victoria, BC

August 15, 2006

Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, delivers some Old World English charm in New World environs.

Located on Vancouver Island’s southern tip, Victoria enjoys milder weather than the mainland and showcases traditional English gardens plus a wide variety of gardens. Mr. Crumpet and the Missus spent a day strolling through the world-renowned Butchart Gardens. (Orange Bear found a shady place to nap under an arbor.)

“Now, where did Orange Bear run off to?” muttered Mr. Crumpet.

Mr. Crumpet made sure not to miss the afternoon tea and, uh, crumpets at the Empress hotel. (Don’t expect supermarket prices: this little ritual can run you over 50 Canadian smackers per person. )

Orange Bear spat out his honey crumpet when the bill arrived.

“I think I need to sit down.”

“You are sitting down,” smirked Mr. Crumpet. “And since when have you ever picked up the tab?”
