Phil’s Friend

December 2, 2006

Orange Bear hadn’t seen Phil the Owl for a few days, so he decided to pay him a visit.

When he arrived at Phil’s tree, Orange Bear heard a rather pleasant female voice. “Phil must have company,” he thought. “Wait a second, Phil never has company.”

So Orange Bear tiptoed closer to Phil’s tree to have a better listen.

The pleasant female voice intoned: “A new version of Opera’s browser for mobile phones shows that surfing the web on your cell doesn’t mean a completely stripped-down browsing experience.

“Oh, no,” thought Orange Bear. “She’s just like Phil!”

Then, his hind paw snapped a twig at the base of the tree.

“Oh, hello down there, Orange Bear,” called Phil, waving a wing. “I would like you to meet someone.” He disappeared into the foliage, leaving Orange Bear to ponder this puzzling development.

A moment later, Phil reappeared with…a white plastic rabbit?

“Meet Violet,” smiled Phil as the white plastic rabbit’s tummy performed a mini light show.

“Hi, Violet,” said Orange Bear.

Violet swiveled her ears and cooed, “Partly cloudy. Thirty-seven degrees Fahrenheit.”

Hmmm, perhaps Violet could teach Muddy a few useful things. All he does is thump his back foot on the floor to tell me when my downstairs neighbour is playing her stereo too loudly… and I already know that because I can hear it too! (he’s not terribly bright).

But Muddy is charming, and Violet is, sadly, quite plastic.
