The Whiz Kid

January 29, 2007

Orange Bear and friends are saddened by the loss of Barbaro, the champion colt who suffered a freak injury at the Kentucky Derby last May. On Monday morning, he was euthanized after a new round of setbacks stemming from the hoof disease laminitis.

Like the most beloved of human athletes, Barbaro possessed an endearing personality on top of his unique physical gifts. His fight to the end, which garnered interest across America, will help save the lives of other horses in the future. Barbaro’s veterinarian Dr. Dean Richardson summed it up best: “People love greatness. People love the story of his bravery.”
