Orange Bear Answers the Mail

March 8, 2007

A loyal reader asks, “Would you describe Mr. Crumpet’s absence to work on the Long-Unfinished Project as something akin to a Bildungsroman?”

This question deeply unsettled Orange Bear so he decided to ask Mr. Crumpet himself, who still remains buried beneath the Long-Unfinished (But Less So) Project.

Milton MoleMilton Mole, patriarch of the kindly Mole family, relayed this message from Mr. Crumpet:

My Dear Orange Bear, I can only hope that my work on the Long-Unfinished (But Less So) Project is somehow personally edifying. At this juncture, however, it feels more like a Story With No End. But that might just be the darkness talking.

Orange Bear sent the following reply to the loyal reader:

Mr. Crumpet cheerfully expects a happy ending.

    Dear Mr. Crumpet:

It’s darkness’s business to make us feel afraid and in chaos, going nowhere fast, we think. We pray for discernment & encouragement in this area.

    Dear K.,

Thank you for your encouraging note. Mrs. Crumpet did furnish Mr. Crumpet with a flashlight. He may have run out of batteries.

Milton Mole is delivering a fresh set of batteries shortly so that, while buried deep under the Long-Unfinished (But Less So) Project, Mr. Crumpet can see what he’s doing.

A great relief. And perhaps Mr. Phil the Owl might educate Mr. Crumpet about a popular camping gadget– a flashlight with a fashionable headband, which allows for hands-free vision in the dark. A must-have for any apparent spelunker or other persons buried neck-deep ( or worse) in “projects”.

K., your suggestion is most welcome. Perhaps this flashlight could be fashioned to Mr. Crumpet’s hat.

Phil the Owl very much appreciates your mentioning him. He says this: “I never had much use for flashlights, but some of my favorite multi-function pens have tiny little flashlights built in.”
