Globetrotting archaeologist and ophidiophobe Indiana Jones (a.k.a. Harrison Ford) is coming to our neck of the woods — well, within a day’s drive, anyway. At the end of the month, director Steven Spielberg and crew are scheduled to arrive in New Haven to shoot scenes for the fourth, as-yet-untitled installment of the Indiana Jones movie series.

Details are scant, but the story takes place in the 1950s, to take into account the 18-year gap since the release of the last sequel Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The movie, which also stars Australian Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett and up-and-comer Shia LaBeouf, began shooting Monday in New Mexico and will be released on May 22, 2008.

Dr. Recherché portends a Shakespearean death for the film hero:

Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come. (Julius Caesar)

What do you think?

    Speaking of movies, have you heard about the upcoming movie adaptation of Jon Katz’s border collie bestseller A Good Year starring Jeff Bridges (and a border collie)?
